Environmental Democracy Index

The Access Initiative (TAI) and the World Resources Institute have announced a new metric for environmental rights, which they will launch later this year. According to TAI, "The Environmental Democracy Index (EDI) will be the first comprehensive index designed specifically to measure procedural rights in an environmental context."

The EDI criteria is based on the UNEP Principle 10 Bali Guidelines. The Index will be presented on an interactive online platform that allows the user to examine Index information at general and specific levels.  Each of the 99 indicators for environmental democracy include scoring guidance, and individual country scores will be update every two years to ensure accuracy.  The EDI will launch October 23, 2014.
