Bangkok Consultation Report on EHRDs and Good Practices

Together with OHCHR and UNEP, the Independent Expert convened a regional expert meeting in May to discuss the relationship between human rights obligations and environmental protection, with a focus on environmental human rights defenders (EHRDs) in Asia and the Pacific.

The consultation is part of an ongoing series of meetings aimed at identifying good practices in different areas of human rights and the environment.  The report of the meeting is now available.

EHRDs face  increasing incidence violence from a variety of actors, yet many incidents go unreported because of barriers to information gathering. While State and non-State actors are obligated to protect EHRDs, justice can be infrequent. Fortunately, many good practices of varying scopes were recognized from providing assistance to individual EHRDs  to evaluating systemic human rights issues on a national level.   The full Regional Consultation Report from Bangkok is available here.
