Country Missions

For my first two country visits, I went to Fiji (December 2018) and Norway (September 2019). Both nations have made progress in protecting human rights from some types of environmental harms, and both nations face substantial challenges ahead. It was a very powerful and emotional experience to visit Fijian communities that are suffering clear human rights violations as a result of climate change. Norway is a world leader on several climate actions, including clean electricity, electric vehicles and financing rainforest protection, but paradoxically generates much of its wealth by exporting oil and gas and thus contributing to climate change.
