UN Resolution on Human Rights and Climate Change

On June 23, the UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution on human rights and climate change. Among other things, the resolution requests that Human Rights Council mandate holders give special consideration to human rights and climate change within the context of their individual mandates.

The Independent Expert responded to this call by publishing an a mapping report on human rights and climate change.

The resolution also calls for increased international dialogue on the adverse impacts of climate change with an emphasis on those States with the greatest need of assistance from the international community, and commits the Council to a full day discussion of these issues at its March 2015 session.

The resolution reaffirms UN commitment to this important issue ahead of the Climate Summit in September. The full resolution is available here.
